Welcome to the Three Penny Noble Apiary

Our History

Three Penny Noble Apiary was founded in 2020 with two hives - Abby and Steve. We have evolved into a five-hive apiary with plans to expand to 15. They are currently located on beautiful farmland where they actively pollinate crops and vineyards. It is this combination of fruit and grain that gives our honey its amazing, complex flavor.

Meet Our Bees

Three Penny Noble beekeepers have a passion for promoting healthy honeybee populations. They are dedicated to providing the best possible care for our hives and ensuring that our products are of the highest quality.

  • Abby - Newly queened in 2023. This hive is in growth mode. Our focus is all about her population and strength as she prepares for the winter.
  • Bennie- This hive was queened in 2022. She has a strong, healthy population and remains vigilant against predators and infestations. Requeened in 2024.
  • Chris - Queened in 2022, Chris is prolific and has experienced excellent honey production.
  • Dami - Queened in 2022, this hive is steady and reliable.
  • Eliza - Queened in 2023, Eliza has been slow and steady. Her populations are smaller than those of her peers. We will be bolstering her honey stores this autumn to help the hive survive over the winter.
  • Frankie - Queened in 2022, this is a strong hive with solid honey production. Her bees defend well against disease and unwanted pests.
  • Geri-Ann - Queened from a swarm 2024
  • Hilda - Queened in 2021, Hilda has tremendous strength and honey production. She is our MOST aggressive hive. We believe that Hilda is on her second queen since her initial setup in 2020.

Our Hives

At this time, we have five hives made up of Italian and Carniolan honeybees.

  • Italian bees are generally gentle in temperament and known to produce beautiful and copious wax.
  • Carniolan bees, while more aggressive, have populations that are highly adaptable to pollen availability and are able to produce larger quantities of honey as a result. They are relatively hearty against disease and temperature fluctuations. Their mildly aggressive nature helps them to defend against predators.
